Those free weekends may be what surprised me. Even Sundays are never this busy. Will be increasing capacity significantly in the following week, this shouldn't have happened.

Bump.
Sundays, especially related to free listing weekends (that or the week after) are always the most busy times for eBay and hence, I presume for Gixen.

I regret to say that it seems that this was a capacity issue, hence an oversight on my side. I was unable to find any evidence that this was indeed an attack of any kind.
I am working on preventing this from happening again.
Many apologies to all the affected users.

Post subject: Failed snipes between 2.00-2.40 PM PST
There is an issue that looks like a DOS attack on the main server in the last 40 minutes. I temporary disabled logins until I see what is going on.
If you see an "AUCTION ENDED EARLY", "EBAY ERROR: BID FLOW RESET" or "UNKNOWN ERROR", this is what caused it.
Snipes for auctions ending after 2.40 are executing fine again.
Mirror server was not affected by the issue.
I am investigating what caused this, and will post updates in the same thread. Please do not create another forum thread for the same issue.
