Larry,
I think this is the most commonly asked question, and is hence covered in the FAQs. The bid increment in that price range is $1 so any bid below $82 would not be accepted by eBay at the point that gixen came to place your bid.
See:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/bid-increments.html
Had your bid been placed before Aug-04-08 05:46:29 PDT (when the $80 was placed) which was 8 seconds before the auction finished then yours would have been accepted, you may still not have won as 1canpara-hq's bid may have been even higher we will never know. So you might find it useful to increase your bid offset.

Post subject: Bid not placed?
Greetings all,
This is the second time I've *tried* to use gixen, and I'm not at all sure gixen placed my bid. The item number is 220263390189
I (seemingly) added a gixen bid for $81.55 ~12 hours before auction close, details below. However, the auction closed, with (a) a price under my bid (b) no indication in the bid history that my bid was even entered, and (c) gixen saying "Bid under price" (But my bid of $81.55 was greater than the $81.00 settling price.)
Can anybody explain what happened?
-- Thanks,
Larry (A somewhat bewildered gixen newbie)
