If you have a Mirror subscription you could perhaps find it in the History, accessed from the My Snipes page.
Otherwise, as mentioned in the
posting guidelines
it can't be investigated any further here.

I've no idea now. I don't keep finished not bid on auctions in either my eBay or gixen.

What was the auction id ?
If you don't want to post that here, just find another auction from the same seller on the site you have your bids submitted to, and push the bid button manually, you don't need to type any amount in, or actually submit the bid... just report back here if there any messages that pop up before you get to that stage.

I have a credit card on file with eBay. I know nothing of the seller and presumably vice versa so not blocked and both they and I are in the UK.

This can be for a number of reasons.
