Well, last night I won an auction with the help of Gixen, and I got the item for nearly half of my maximum bid amount. It makes it so easy, to be able to simply place your details on Gixen and get on with whatever you are doing while the auction takes place. This is proof indeed that Gixen does work. Many thanks, Gixen!
Thank you both for your explanations, I understand now.

If the high bid, at the point where Gixen was going to place your bid, was higher than your snipe, then Gixen would not have placed the bid (and, if it had, eBay would not have accepted it).
Looking at that auction, and assuming that you had Gixen set to snipe at the default 6 seconds before auction end, the high bid at that point would have been GBP 30.99. You say that the auction went for "much more" than you had bid - so if your bid was (say) GBP 25, then it would not have been placed or accepted. This is no different to you sitting at your keyboard and trying to place a GBP 25 (or whatever) bid 6 seconds before the end of the auction, when the current bid was already GBP 30.99.

No you did the right thing... so did the Gixen software.
It isn't possible to place a bid that is below one bid increment more than the current auction price... so no bid would have been placed.
Gixen can and will only ever place a bid when the auction price is below your maximum bid amount when it comes to the end of the auction.

Post subject: My 1st use of Gixen and it did not bid for me
This was my first ever use of Gixen. A couple of days before the auction I entered my eBay user name and password on Gixen, I entered the eBay item number and I entered my maximum bid.
The item, 291399040552, went for much more than what I bid, but my point is that after it ended I did not see my bid in the list of seven bidders. The lack of a post-auction email from eBay saying "Sorry you missed out" confirms that no bid was made by Gixen on my behalf.
Did I do something wrong?
