I called eBay Customer Service, #866-540-3229.
The CSR advised me to temporarily change the Primary Shipping Address under Account Settings prior to the bid
. Account Settings may be found by clicking on the eBay username located on the top left side of the screen.
Wish I had known about this beforehand. But at least now I know what to do in the future. :)
Note: I had also contacted the seller prior to bid closing, to find out whether he would be willing to lift the restriction. He was not. I'm not sure whether he was drop-shipping the item or whether he just didn't want to post via USPS. (FedEx and UPS rates to Hawaii are exorbitant.)

The restriction will be at Ebay, Gixen does not impose any restrictions itself, it just reports them back to you when it encounters them on Ebay.
Ebay certainly does have functionality designed to prevent bids coming from buyers that will want the item shipped to locations the seller does not wish to service.
So, for a definitive answer, I would recommend asking on Ebay, maybe via their live chat option?... or perhaps members on their buyers forum might be the quickest way to find a good answer, beware of others that might have experience from some years ago, you really need practical experience from the last 6 months.
I believe there may have been changes to Ebay software since I last wrote about this, so I do not want to mislead you by telling you how it worked in the past... I suspect I, and many others, are out of date on the options available to you... so, if you find an answer that works for you, I would be grateful if you could post it here so that other Gixen users, that encounter the same issue in the future, have something to refer back to.

Post subject: AUCTION RESTRICTED: Requirements not met
I just missed out on a great deal on eBay Item number: 301502463005.
Reason:
Buyer Requirements
Sorry, this item cannot be shipped to Alaska/Hawaii.
The seller has specified that this item cannot be shipped to addresses in Alaska/Hawaii
You can contact the seller for more information, or find similar items offered by other sellers.
I knew that the item couldn't be shipped to me Hawaii! I bid with the intention of having it shipped to my brother in California (for him to mail to Hawaii).
How can avoid this problem in the future?
Can I temporarily change my profile address to the States? If so, how? I wasn't aware of eBay nor Gixen keeping track of my mailing address.
