Understood, thanks.
I was actually just about to post that upgrading to Firefox 33.0.2 had cured the problem, when it happened again!
It's very intermittent, and I suspect that it has something to do with new code in Firefox for handling the certificates required for https connections.

I wish I could replicate this. I am running Firefox 33.0.2, and see no issues, both on Mac and Windows. I also checked Chrome and IE, both on Windows, and Safari on Mac. I have never experienced an issue, though many users told me about issues they are having.
I am not saying that you don't see what you see, just that I cannot replicate the problem, which is necessary in order to solve it.
