No you don't need to tick that box... You only use that when you want to select multiple items in order to delete them.
If you select them by ticking that box then you can delete them with the red cross at the top of that column.

Hi there,
I am about to use Gixen for the first time and dont want to get it wrong
looking at the screen, I have entered the details of the item, put in my bid, now there is a tick box on the left of the item,
Do I need to put a tick in this ?
Please help as I dont want to miss this item
