rjsdavis,
ebay UK used to have some additonal warning screens for knives, even for kitchen knives and/or some terms that need to be accepted. Have you ever seen that when trying to place a bid manually? |

I've experienced this twice in the last fortnight - mostly recently tonight (Item - 251168507306) which ended for GBP 8.50, where my max snipe was GBP 15.76!
Ebay don't want anything from me, they don't want any payment details from me, and my account is completely fine with nothing outstanding.
I note from the developer that this was his suggestion, but from my point of view, and in respect of my account, this is defo not correct.
What's the solution? It's S O annoying to have missed an auction you'd have clearly won with the max bid/snipe! |

carolineg6105,
I agree with Mario regarding the 'Ebay error: bid flow reset (2)' message.
For the 'Bid under asking price: ebay increment rule not met' message, that is different, eBay will not accept a bid that is less than one bid increment above the current auction price, this was the case for your auction 170912250413 when Gixen came to place the bid for you....
It is however possible to win by less than one bid increment when your bid is accepted (because it is more than one bid increment more that the current auction price) but is less than one bid increment more than the highest bidders actual bid (which may be much more that the current auction price). Of course, to win an auction your bid must first be accepted by eBay... |

carolineg6105,
eBay wants something from you. Maybe your credit card expired, they want an additional information, or something else. I don't know what it is, it's behind that second login screen. Try submitting a bid manually, and see what they ask for. |

|
Hi - I've used Gixen for several years with no problems at all. Now yesterday, I lost two items, both of which I had bid higher than the winning amount. This means that I lost both items and the seller was deprived of a higher sale price.
The first item (180977550767) had the following message on Gixen 'Ebay error: bid flow reset (2)' I have never seen this type of message before. The winning bid was GBP 28 but my snipe was GBP 32+. What happened?
The second item I lost (170912250413) was sold for GBP 16.55 whereas my maximum bid was GBP 16.78. The message was 'Bid under asking price: ebay increment rule not met' and a link to an ebay info page. However reading that page it seems to state exactly that my bid SHOULD have won the auction in that circumstance (or at least pushed another bidder above my top bid, if someone else had bid higher), even though it was not a full increment above the other bidder.
Please explain what has happened - to suddenly lose two bids in this way on one day has seriously undermined my confidence in using the Gixen service. |

bargain123,
Can you provide an auction number this has happened on?
If it is happening on all auctions you try to snipe it would tend to indicate that there is an issue with your account... in that case it is probably best to try a manual bid on something via eBay direct and see if the issue then shows up as you try to do that. |

Thor, email me for transfer, and include your old/new username, I'll fix that for you.
As for the "bid flow reset", you are right, this is relatively rare - I can see 4 such events in the last 24 hours for all the bids Gixen places, and the other three are all with the same buyer (so safe to assume he has an account issue). That's all I can say - I still have no idea why it happens to you. |

The email should go to the email account that was associated with the Paypal account that you paid for mirror with.
If you can't see it in the Inbox it might be worth while checking your spam folder.
Are you located in the UK?.. I notice both the items are located in the UK. Do you have your target eBay server set to be the UK here on Gixen?... Not that it would be a problem if you had it pointing at the American site, but its one more variable in the story, and might be to your advantage to change it to the UK, for other reasons, if you are located here. |

Hi Mario!
It happened again today (item no: 330603813426).
I realise now that I haven't yet got Mirror onstream for my new username, but even so I would have thought two such occurrences so close together would be unusual.
I have tried to transfer my Mirror account from my old username, but I'm still awaiting the email with instructions.
Best wishes,
Thor |

Yes, it was mirrored - or at least it should have been. I have another bid coming up later today, so we'll see what happens there.

Thor,
The new bidding system has been around for quite a while now and does not cause issues... In this specific case it is likely that the eBay server logged you out unexpectedly as Gixen was trying to place the bid... Was this snipe Mirrored?... It is very unusual for this to happen on two servers simultaneously. |

Item number: 110729548607
I got this message (EBAY ERROR: BID FLOW RESET) in response to my Gixen bid today. I have tried bidding manually on another item, and although there was a pop-up screen to deal with, it wasn't a log-in or verification screen, but simply the new eBay system for placing a bid.
Hope you can help.
Best wishes,
Thor |

Yes, as Mario says, once you have logged into Gixen sucessfully again... and set up new snipes you should not have a problem. |

mv_knox, your password was definitely incorrect. I reset the hash, so if you can login now to Gixen, anything you schedule should be fine. |

Thanks for the reply and suggestions.
I placed a bid manually to check it out but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Everything went as it should, set the bid, confirm, thats it.
My account is verified and is fine.
Right now I'm wondering if it was for just that particular item or if its an account issue thats going to occur again on my next snipe. I can't test it now because I don't need a make a purchase anytime soon. |

Ced,
It will be because eBay is acting differently for your account, for some reason, probably specific to your account... I think the advice would be the same, try bidding manually, if you can, preferably for an item from the same seller and you should be able to find what eBay want you to do to sort out the issue... |

I've just had exactly the same problem. I bought an other item manualy just before without any problem. I've never had this problem before with Gixen... |

See if you need to verify your ebay account - if you credit card on file with ebay expired or similar.
Try to place a bid manually, and when you get that second login screen, see what's behind it. There is a reason. |

Dear Both,
Hmmm... Not sure that such a feature would be hugely more confusing than Bid Groups or Contingency Bidding are already (i.e not very).
Anyone confused by 'Cancel my subsequent snipes after [n] snipes have been successful' perhaps ought not to be allowed near a PayPal account in the first place. ;-)
I stand by my offer in the previous posting of helping fund the development of this feature (for everyone to use). It woud save me and I'm sure others many hours of time each week.
And yes I'd be up for some UAT if it helps. As a QA engineer it would be nice to to put something back into Gixen if I could (aside from being a Mirror subscriber).
Cheers,
Steve |

Yes, you are right Mario, extortion is uncalled for and I apologise for that attempt.
I was only partially serious anyway (hence my smiley at the end)... but wanted to highlight that there are a few more considerations than just the initial implementation cost. |

Mark, no need to extort any commitment from Steve :-).
This feature would definitely need to be enabled on the settings page to make sure only users who understand it can use it. |

Steve,
Are you offering to do the user acceptance testing?
... and are you prepared to hang about on this forum and support the extension if it is made?
... By explaining to all those that got confused by it and ended up buying things they didn't intend to... and are annoyed by that... that it was your idea and how useful it is? |

To clarify my previous post: "I enter my 20 snipes in the normal way and assign each a Bid Group"
What I meant to say was "I enter my 20 snipes in the normal way and assign them to the same Bid Group"
Also apologies for the various typo's.

Hi Mario,
It was this: h t t p : w w w . gixen.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5015
Basically a group with a counter. When 'n' snipes were successful all remaining snipes in the group are cancelled.
Use Case: "I find 20 similar items on eBay, of which I need to buy a total of 8".
So basically I enter my 20 snipes in the normail way and assign eash a Bid Group. Within the group I enter a value of 8 [the total number of items I wish to buy] in a 'Cancel after number of successful snipes' box.
Speaking as a non-programmer, it's totally easy to do and should take you about five minutes. LOL! ;-)
Cheers,
Steve |

Spot-on Mario. I've been buying quite a few items on eBay over the weekend thanks to Gixen and reached a limit of theirs [which was displayed when trying a manual bid]. Adding my Visa card details allowed me to proceed with the bid.
Now. About that whole 'specifying number of successful wins in Bid Groups' feature from another thread... ;-)
Kind Regards,

I just checked again, this was for the auctions ending yesterday.
It happened to only two users, fonaticalbuyer (9 times) and another user (2 times). This is definitely not a random occurrence, and it looks like an account issue.
fonaticalbuyer, can you try to bid manually, and when you get that extra login screen, see what's behind it? eBay wants something from you, possibly to verify your account. |

Steve, this error message means that a login page is returned in the bid flow even after Gixen already logged in to ebay. 2-3 days ago this was happening at one point frequently, so I suspect that ebay had an issue at that time. The problem seems to have vanished since then.
I am quite sorry about your lost bids - but this happens from time to time. |
