No, you do not need to place your max bid directly with eBay. Gixen will log in and place your bid for you on your behalf at 6 seconds before the auction closes. In fact, placing your bid directly with eBay defeats the purpose of a sniping service, which is to have your bid placed at the end of the auction without you having to be there.
