That's because the winning bidder placed their bid at 7:39:31PM, while your bid was placed at 8:00:36PM (4 seconds before the auction closed at 8:00:40PM). According to eBay rules, if two bids of the same amount are made, the earlier bid wins. That's what happened here.
... and this is another reason I use larger offsets... of course it would have made no difference in this case because the winning bid was placed many minutes before the end of the auction... but the auctions I bid on tend to have many snipers placing bids of about the same amount in the last few seconds, I want to be the first of those, not the last.

Post subject: Winning bid was same as my bid but I didn’t win. Why?
Item 202317806333
I bid $125 with a 3 second snipe time. (I have a Mirror subscription.) The winning bid was $125, but I did NOT win the auction. Why and how did someone else win with the same bid?
