Hello, I setup a snipe on Gixen, with a max bid of $7899... the auction ended at a final price of $7300 and I didn't win. Did I do something wrong?

FYI Just spoke with the auction owner, he knew my username immediately because it listed as *invalid* in his bids.

The seller had a reserve price higher than the amount that you were prepared to pay.

His reserve was $18,000, my max bid was $8000

The winning bidder won at $7200... youre saying that, because I didn't have a max bid of $18,000, ebay didnt drive the winning bidders price up to atleast mine? That doesn't make any sense. That's less money for the seller, less fees for eBay. I find your suggestion highly illogical and highly unlikely

Yes, that is how Ebay works... there was no 'winning bidder', that is the purpose of a 'Reserve'.

You were not the winning bidder even though you had the highest bid because your bid was less than the reserve amount which the seller chose and paid to have associated with their auction.

Ebay only displays a price of one bid increment more than the second highest bidder unless and until the reserve price is met.

Nobody is in a position to win the auction until the reserve price is met, or if you like, you could regard it as the seller is winning up to that point. No sale has been made or can be made through Ebay until that price is met.

Personally, I don't think the seller (or anyone else, other than the highest bidder) has the right to know precisely how much that highest bidder was prepared to pay... but I respect your right to have a different opinion on that.

In any case, if you don't like the way it works you need to take it up with Ebay itself, because it has nothing to do with how Gixen operates, or what could be changed at Gixen in the future.
