Hi

Gixen failed to bid on item 124629160494, even though my bid was over the asking price.

I'm using the desktop manager/GUI version 2.02.

I haven't updated or changed anything for a few months, so I don't know if there was some update or modifying action I was supposed to take in that time.

Was you bid also more than one bid increment more than the current auction price, so ÂGBP 6 or more ?

What was the status that Gixen gave the snipe after it had completed ?

No - the starting price was 0.99. There were three bids uo to the selling prince of 5.50. I bid 5.99

The status was "bid under asking price".

It appears that the problem was something else other than not bidding as I mistakenly believed. Instead Gixen has incorrectly resigstered my bid as under the asking price, when in reality it was higher than the winning bid.

Correct, this happened because of ebay bid increments. Please see https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/bidding/automatic-bidding?id=4014

I'm not sure I understand. What went wrong and what should I have done?

Is it saying that the winning bidders high bid was more than mine and my bid wasn't placed because of the bid increment rules?

Ebays' bid increment rule is that they don't accept any bid that is less than one bid increment more than the current auction price.

So what this is saying is that when Gixen tried to place the bid it was rejected by Ebay.

The only way around this is for your bid to have been higher... or for you to place your bid before the price rises to the point where it gets rejected.

As a slight aside (since it doesn't relate to the specifics of the bidding on this auction), because the price tends to rise at the end of an auction due to the snipe bids coming in, this has potential to happen a lot at the end of auctions... and is the reason why I have a default offset that is higher than the default of 6 seconds... so that my bid has a greater chance of getting accepted by Ebay when it is placed without actually allowing enough time for a buyer to react to my bid.

Don't you mean a lower default offset - i.e Gixen bids faster?

No, I do mean higher... the offset is the amount of time before the auction end that the bid is placed... so the higher the offset the earlier the bid.
