I was wondering whether snipes have been tested on auctions that have auto pay enabled? I placed an early bid on the first auction that asked me to confirm my payment method and address when bidding. It advised that if I won it would use those details 1 hour after the auctions conclusion to auto-debit my credit card.

My questions would be:

1. On these auctions do you have to bid early in order to snipe?
2. If you don't bid early, will Gixen force bid through where ebay accepts bid with your default address and payment method?
3. If you bid early and choose your payment method and shipping address (that is different to your default) when you snipe which one will ebay choose?

I am happy as long as the bid goes through. Most of the time I would have the hour to adjust it if it wasn't going to my defaults.

Well, this has been an ongoing discussion for a while now:

etc.

So, with respect to your specific questions:

A: Undoubtedly with the number of snipes Gixen processes and the amount of time this has been discussed here, there will have been many auctions where auto pay has been enabled.. but, as I've said elsewhere, I have not personally had any bids rejected for this reason, and there are no reports here that have been confirmed to be related specifically to this policy.

A: There is no evidence of this, so far.

A: Mario has not reported here, or in any private messages to me, that there is any specific processing for this that has been required by Ebay, or that they've informed him that any will be required in the future. I have however noticed that once you set up a payment method on Ebay they use it for everything you win, at least that was the case a few months ago. That's not acceptable to me, and I've pushed back quite strongly against it... I note that I'm not the only one to do so... and it would appear that at least one of my long standing Ebay accounts has, for the moment, been granted a reprieve from this requirement, that was certainly in place a few months ago. Going forward, Gixen is not aware of your physical address or anything about your payment methods, and I doubt Ebay would share them even if you gave them permission to do so, so it's likely that any implementation that Ebay imposes on this is going to be entirely on their side of things.

A: As I've indicated it's likely to be an Ebay decision that Gixen has no part in. It's probably best to ask them. It would surprise me if they didn't use the method you'd already specified in an earlier bid though. It's not something I would recommend doing at this stage though, any early bids most likely consequence is just that the final auction price will be higher and that you'll either end up paying more for it, or not winning at all.

There's a lot of outstanding questions about this on the Ebay boards, that's maybe a better place to have the debate. There are a lot more well informed users in that discussion, and you are more likely to have an influence over the decisions that Ebay makes about this.

Thanks Mark I'll have a bit more of a search and see what others have experienced. I heard about it happening many months ago, but never had any personal experience
