Hi Mario,

would it be possible to incorporate a short form of the status right into the subject of the auction end notice?

I'm thinking of something like
Subject: Outbid notice ($status) for item $item
with $status in (\"HIGH\", \"LOW\", \"OUTBID\")

Usually, I'm only interested in looking closer at the auctions where I was outbid in the last second, in order to decide, whether I need to adjust the snipe-time in the future.

The LOW (BID UNDER ASKING PRICE) are basically equivalent to OUTBID notices that Gixen just didn't get around to before the end of the auction.

If I prevail as HIGH BIDDER, ebay will inform me anyway, but if they don't, that's another case, I want to look at closer.

I'm not sure whether my thinking is coming across well...

Best,
moishe

Sorry, copied wrong subject. I didn't mean
Subject: Outbid notice ($status) for item $item
but
Subject: Auction end notice ($status) for item $item
of course.

Surely if you have been outbid in the last second, you need to adjust your bid AMOUNT, not your snipe time?

eBay auctions are won by the highest bidder, not the latest bidder... (Leaving aside edge cases)

Point being? If the bid amount was the only relevant parameter, I wouldn't need gixen, but could simply place my bid directly at any time.

I want to learn from my snipes and adjust the parameters for future snipes. As I often have 20-30 running at a time, having more info in the subject line would help me identify the ones I need to take a closer look at, in order to learn.

That's an incorrect assumption - you don't seem to understand the rationale behind sniping (which is to prevent an opposing bidder having the time to decide to place a higher bid than they have already placed).

At the end of the day (barring, as I said, some edge cases), the highest bid will always win the auction, and it doesn't really matter whether you place your snipe 10 seconds or 1 millisecond before the auction ends. As long as you have sniped at the maximum you are happy to pay for the item, then the only thing which will determine whether you win the auction will be the highest bid placed by any competing bidder.

I would appreciate it, if posters would refrain from assuming that I do not understand how ebay and gixen work.

To get back on topic:

Would it be possible to put the exact status at time of the email into the subject line of the email, either in long or short form as to make it easier to filter the emails?

As I often have multiple tens of gixen bids running at a time I get a relatively high number of status mails and would like to be able to directly filter them according to the status. As it is right now, some of the gixen mails have the same subject despite showing differing status details in the mail body.

It would also be great if the status mails from gixen hat a uniform format in the subject line to make it easier to sort and prune them both by hand and by filter. Currently some of them do and some of them don't.

Thanks,
moishe

Concretely I'm thinking of sujects like

    * Outbid/running notice for item 27660344918
    * Outbid/ended notice for item 27660344918
    * Low bid/ended notice for item 1965682235
    * High bid/ended notice for item 40509352733
    * Invalid authorization/ended notice for item 40509352733
    * Item not found notice for item 3262216964

But the contents of your previous posts indicate that you really, really do not understand how eBay or Gixen work.

Ramona, I have nothing to prove to you. If you have nothing constructive to say on the topic of the email subjects, please just leave it at that. Thanks.

But you are asking Mario to do additional development work to amend Gixen based on an incorrect understanding of how eBay/Gixen/sniping works. That would take him away from other (more useful/productive) development work, and so my comments are intended to be constructive to the wider Gixen community.
