I know eBay is the biggest out there, but would it be possible/worthwhile to adapt Gixen to other auction sites?

Does anyone know of any other sniping services for other auction sites?

Thanks!

This has been asked before, and the answer is that it's just not worthwhile the effort - none of the other sites is nowhere close to the traffic ebay has. In addition, for some sites it wouldn't even be effective due to different rules (e.g. bid time extensions).

Just think of the uproar if an auction site announced they were embracing sniping and added the feature to their site!

Well they could describe it as a second stream of bids. You know, like 'secret' bids that are opened as the auction is concluded.

This feature could be used as a marketing tool. For example; "Every Auction at YourAuctionSite, sellers benefit with two separate streams of bids for every auction."

Such an site could control the right to make 'secret' bids. You know like rules, 'secret bids' must entered 24 hours before auction concludes. And may not be canceled, once confirmed.

This might become a real feature not a bug.

Seriously, There may merit for someone to further develop this idea.

That's real ebay is the biggest but there are some other big too! but I don't know difficulty to offer such service, it seems difficult. But even with time extension it can benefit if it bids right at the time extension limit (like 5 minutes before end. so sometimes rival has no time to bid again) but it's real it's a lot of effort.

Yet the only complain I have about Gixen is now I use ebay too much!

There is a rule in some special physical auction that is called "enchère silencieuse" in french (silent auction). People can come during a day or so to check item, then they put a secret auction (or not). At the end, they open the box with secret auctions and the highest wins.
But non-rational auctions are generally better for sellers, so it's why ebay prefer its system.

DruidHermit,

It is very difficult to write a sniping tool for a new site, the benefits to Gixen would have to be considerable before it was even considered... there is not enough demand for it for any site other than Ebay.

The system where buyers place bids that other buyers can not see is often also know as 'Sealed' bidding.
