This would be a rare occurence I know, but what would happen if 2 seperate people use gixen to snipe an auction, and both have the the same maximum bid. Is there any way of determining who would win the item?

The answer to this depends on how eBay registers bids, and I suspect that eBay's algorithm for doing that ensures that bids are registered in sequence; that is, bids would never be registered as simultaneous. Another point worth noting is that eBay's clock can differentiate times that differ by as little as a millisecond (or even less), so as a practical matter, bids would never arise at exactly the same time (even though they are listed on the bidding history as arriving at the same time, to the nearest second).

In other words, it simply can't happen that two bids are registered simultaneously.

I should admit that I may not be as expert as others on this particular topic and would welcome any corrections. Smile

Good point juangrande, but this still doesn't address which of the snipes will be sent first (even by microseconds) by Gixen.

I'm guessing that it's unpredictable (based on minor fluctuations in server load and traffic etc.) but I'd like to hear what Mario thinks.

If we really wanted to make things predictable, Mario could set it so that the bid entered earlier into Gixen gets transmitted first. But this would be a lot of work for miniscule benefit. If you are really worried about this, change your snipe offset to the maximum time period. But I'm guessing our Guest just posed this out of curiousity.

I think you're right, cross3_16: I didn't really answer the question that was asked, did I? I'm sure that the OP's question was just out of curiosity, but now I'm curious, as well. Very Happy

You're right - this is completely random, but they are sent almost at the exact same time anyway. What matters is which one will arrive first (and this depends on network and other factors), and processed by ebay, and this is again completely random.
