I am confident that the required procedure is clear to everyone now. |

Let me try it this way:
If you already put in a proxy bid via eBay and your max bid placed via eBay hasn't been reached, when gixen tries to place another bid you are, in effect, bidding against yourself - which eBay doesn't allow to happen. That is going to give you an error message at gixen.
You really are over-complicating this. If you want to place an initial minimum bid at eBay to 'secure' status as the first bidder you can do so. It's quite doubtful that actually helps you to win if you are going to snipe anyway. But don't place a 100 bid at eBay and then do a 100 bid via Gixen. A high proxy bid via eBay defeats the whole point of the gixen. snipe. |

I wasn't joking when I said I don't understand how this works and asked if there's any site info explaining it.
So... if I understand you correctly, I should only give the info to Gixen and let it do all the work? Not put in any bid on ebay?
thank you very much
ps hope your forehead isn't sore from smacking it each time you read my questions :) |

Putting your maximum bid on Ebay would certainly be an error.
Why would you do that when the whole point of sniping is not to reveal the maximum that you are willing to pay until it is too late for anyone to react to it?
I recommend only ever placing manual bids on Ebay if you want to push the price higher than you are willing to pay, or if you want to remove a Buy It Now option that is not at an acceptable price for you to just buy it.
You will always get 'BID UNDER ASKING' as a status on Gixen if you have already placed a bid at or above the snipe amount you specify. Ebay never allows you to place a second bid of the same amount or lower at a later time, no mater what the auction price actually is... Try it on an item you have already placed a bid on... Ebay tells you you must bid more than that... that is exactly what Gixen will get when it tries to bid... hence 'BID UNDER ASKING PRICE' is a correct summary of why the bidding failed.
This is exactly what I was trying to explain in my first response above. |

The amount specified, assuming you mean my max bid, was well above the current bid in both cases on 201505153157 and 262258915592
From your reply I don't think my mistake was putting an initial bid on each item through ebay, or am I wrong? Should I have added 'don't bid on ebay at all, only through gixen' to the correct way to submit to Gixen?
I think I put amy max bid on ebay for both items, was that the error?
I'll find out this afternoon if I get the same message on the current item I'm bidding on.
Thanks again for your patience and info, I really appreciate it |

You are correct in your summary of how to enter a snipe, as far as it goes.
What was the amount that you specified, it has to be at least one bid increment more than the auction price when Gixen comes to place the bid, which is just before the auction finishes, otherwise Ebay will reject it and you will get the status that you reported.
As previously explained, it also has to be more than you have already bid manually on that auction. |

It seems the problem is that I don't know how to use the site correctly.
This happened again today on ebay item 262258915592.
The mirror doesn't say 'Won' Neither says Won, just "Bid Under Asking Price"
If there's a "how to" page for newbies I'd like to find it. If there isn't, is there an explanation of how to use the site anywhere?
Is this the correct way to submit to Gixen:
enter item #
enter my max bid amount under "Bid"
Gixen will fill in: Time To End, Current, & Status
Cross my fingers
Thank you |

Was this snipe Mirrored?
If so was the status 'Won' when you selected the Mirror tab?
Ebay does not allow two bids of the same amount at different times, it tells you that the bid must be higher when you try to submit it the second time, and hence the status that you are seeing.
What it means in these circumstances is that the Mirror server got the bid in first, so the Main was effectively blocked by that earlier bid.
Often the status will later be updated on the Main to be 'Won By Mirror', but sometimes that never gets through, not that that is really an issue since in these cases the snipe would not have been part of a Group. Group snipes are never Mirrored.
If it wasn't a Mirrored snipe, and you didn't submit a manual bid of a higher amount, then it might need further investigation.
Later addition:
Looking at the bidding on that auction the winning bid was placed the day before the auction finished, wasn't it?. So since you say you won, that was your bid?... If that is the case it was also at an amount greater than or equal to your snipe bid?... If so that is the same sort of blocking as if the Mirror server got there first, as explained above. Gixen can only detect that you won the auction if it is first allowed to place the winning bid. |

Sorry if this has been answered, I'm not finding it. I won this: 201505153157 but received the status: "Bid Under Asking Price" Is there a problem somewhere? Is there something additional I should be doing? Thanks |
