I should have looked more closely and asked what the currency was as well, it is always going to be more likely that the maximum bid is too low than that the seller ends the auction early.

Correct, this has been changed a few months back to trigger a notice as soon as someone is outbid, or bid is too low. However this auction has ended.

Ah I see... so it isn't necessarily an 'Auction end notice' then, it might be an 'Auction outbid notice'?

Bid increment in that price range is 1 GBP.

What is the auction number?

My first guess would be that the seller ended the auction early.

any ideas of what has happened here?

"Auction end notice
Your maximum bid: 17.30
Current price: 16.60"
