I typically use Gixen to bid on items I can't stay around to watch (middle of the night, while I'm at work, etc.)

The other day, it really came in handy while I was home to watch the auction. I never found out if it was just the internet, our connection or what, but with a few minutes left in the auction, suddenly Ebay started taking forever to refresh the page. Checked other sites like Google, etc. and it was about half and half (some sites very slow, others fast).

I quickly hit up Gixen, entered my max bid and went back to watch Ebay slowly update the page (if it didn't time out altogether). Thanks to Gixen, I won. :)
