For a (potential) bidder that would be their Customer Support.

I guess it might be preferable for the seller to report it via Ebay Seller Support, as they are the main victim... but I'd argue that the evidence you can provide of a higher bid having been blocked is also significant.

Also, since it's really an Ebay issue if you wanted to follow it up further you could raise it in their discussion forum and see what users there think the approach should be. They are more likely to understand the Ebay internal processes and organisation on this. It's also more likely that Ebay employees will see it and pick it up if it's discussed there.

Thanks Cupid! Good catch! Totally opened my eyes to this behavior. I'm a fairly heavy buyer so I'm surprised this is the first time I've noticed it!

I reported it to the seller. I don't see an obvious way to report to eBay?

If you look in the bids page at the bottom, you can see that a bid of $290.00 was retracted 3 seconds before the auction ended.

So the price will have been much higher until then which will have blocked your bid.

That's classic bid shielding behaviour as discussed here:

https://www.gixen.com/blog/bid-shielding-ebay/

As you can see from this link Gixen does have some mitigation in place for Mirror subscribers that, at least, ensures that the fraudster has to pay more for the item than you were wiling to and might therefore also deter then from doing this too often.

Also if you click on that bidders profile you get:

https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/ViewBidderProfile?&mode=1&item=145034326009&bidtid=2061924678004

which has:

30-Day Summary

Total bids: 21
Items bid on: 21
Bid activity (%) with this seller: 4%
Bid retractions: 24
Bid retractions (12 months): 32

Showing that this account is consistently being used for this kind of fraudulent behaviour.

If it were me, I'd report that activity to both the seller and to Ebay pointing out that both have lost money as a result of this bidders actions.

I have an example that I don't think is a Bid Increment problem? Got this message from Gixen:

Item: 145034326009
Title: MacBook Pro 15 A1398 2015 Core i7-4870HQ 2.5GHz 16GB RAM 512GB SSD MONTEREY
Seller: mclean-surplus
Status (main): BID UNDER ASKING PRICE
Your maximum bid: 148.76
Current price: 135.50

It closed at 135.50. This was US site so bid increment was $2.50.

Is this a miss (that might have been prevented with a mirror?)

The bid increment is ÂGBP 5.00 once the auction price reaches ÂGBP 150.00.

See:

https://www.gixen.com/blog/ebay-bid-increments/

It's also covered on the FAQ page which I recommend everyone reads, at least once.

I wanted to bid on an auction but no bids were placed and under status is tells me that the bid was under the asking price. However, the item sold for ÂGBP 150 with my maximum bid being ÂGBP 153.57, When then was no bid placed?
