There is no danger of over-paying, except for multiple-item (dutch) auctions. Once your bid is placed at ebay, ebay takes over with proxy bidding that will raise your bid just enough to win.

I have a bid that's higher then what I expect the auction to end with, my question is, if the auction ends at a lower price then what I expect, will my final bid still be as high as the one I entered on Gixen, or will it raise my bid enough for me to win without me over paying? Thanks for the help.
