I recently lost item 257243607663 when someone outbid me after my snipe (which was at the time the highest bid). How can this happen? Does it mean that they were most likely using a sniping service that could react faster than Gixen? Can I make this less likely by reducing my offset? What is the disadvantage of this? Why is the default set to 6 seconds? How much can it be reduced without running into other problems? Thank you - Rowan
Sniping services, Gixen included, don't 'react', they submit your bid to Ebay at the time you specify.
In this case your bid was placed at:
9 Dec 2025 at 10:21:02am GMT
The winning bid was placed at:
9 Dec 2025 at 7:50:24am GMT
So, the winner wasn't using a sniping service, they just placed a bid higher than you were willing to pay. They submitted their bid directly, about an hour and a half before the end of the auction.
On Ebay the highest accepted bid always wins, no matter when it is placed.
The discussion about how long before the auction end to schedule your bids has been had many times on this forum, these can be found relatively easily using the forum search function... so as not to repeat those too often I'll leave it at that for this post.
