I'm about 99% certain it is eBay (not Gixen) that has the issue with a bid over a BIN price. The eBay system won't allow this, and I've lost several Gixen bids due to not noticing my high bid was higher than the BIN. The eBay system calls this an 'error' and rejects the bid.
Further, in most eBay categories, the BIN goes away once a bid is placed, except in a few categories (electronics, clothes, et al) then only when bids have reached a certain level (usually 50% of BIN price).
Yes, by all means, if you are willing to pay MORE than BIN price, you'd better snag the item because someone else might also be willing... as you just found out.

OOOH, that burns! Somebody was smarter than me and went for it. The laptop was a great deal, even at BIN. That'll teach me to play games...
Anyway, thanks very much for the quick help.

As for your other question - no, Gixen would not be blocked.

I would not rely on that, that post is 5 years old.
Either way, from what I can see this listing has ended with BIN in the meantime. Did you decide to buy it or was it someone else?
I was also in a similar situation recently, but in my case it was something that was not easily replaceable, and that I badly wanted. So I opted for BIN right away.

Ah, and another question... Suppose that I manually enter a snipe over BIN, say at -12 sec, while having a Gixen-scheduled snipe for just UNDER BIN at -6 sec. If my manual snipe is rejected by eBay for whatever reason, will the Gixen snipe still be executed (or can it be blocked by the fact that I am logged into eBay and entering stuff manually)? Or, if my manual snipe DOES succeed, will the Gixen-scheduled snipe simply fail because it's for a lower amount, and no harm done?

Thanks for such a quick reply! After I posted this, I found another thread on the same topic from some years ago (http://www.gixen.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1105&highlight=higher++equal), and those posts indicate that you had already added code back then to handle the "snipe over BIN" situation. Have those changes been reversed since?
The item in question here is 271043944146. The current high bid showing is $420, and BIN is $720, and is also still showing. This means that BIN is, in fact, displayed, even when the current high bid is over 50% of BIN.

Post subject: Why can't Gixen handle a snipe over "Buy it now&quo
Hello. I tried to enter a snipe bid that was higher than the item's "Buy it Now" price, but when I hit the Submit button, Gixen gives me the warning: "Your maximum bid is higher or equal than buy-it-now price. eBay may (and probably will) refuse your bid." From what I understand, I AM allowed to do that on eBay itself -- the only caveat is that eBay puts up a confirmation screen asking if I am sure I want to proceed. Why wouldn't Gixen be able to handle that confirmation screen to complete the bid?
