Is there a browser toolbar tool available?

I love your site and have nothing but praise. My old sniping service (StealthBid) was convenient in that I could access a tool or the website itself from my toolbar while in Ebay (from Explorer but not FireFox). That way I could highlight the auction number on the ebay auction page and StealthBid would automatically pick up the auction number, or I could cut and paste it right into a StealthBid window that opened on the Ebay page. With Gixen, it appears I have to write the auction numbers down that I want to bid on, and then leave ebay, go to Gixen and manually insert the auction numbers. That's a small price to pay for a service (Gixen) that actually and confidently submits the bids I post (as opposed to StealthBid's conveniently and easily enabling me to register bids that were hardly ever submitted anyway). Again, I'm not complaining. I wonder if there's a programmer and Gixen fan that would be able to do something like that. Then again, if you continue to make your site too user friendly, then you'll have even more just cause to start charging us in line with what your awesome service is actually worth to us, as opposed to the very economical $ 6.00 per year

That looks like exactly what I was looking for. I downloaded the add on, but it doesn't show up on my Ebay page, like in the demonstration video. Is there something further I need to do to complete installation or to get the tool up and running? Thanks if you have time to teach me.

Personally I dont use it so I cant help there I'm afraid, hopefully someone that does will be along shortly to help you out.

What I do is use seperate tabs in firfox, one logged into eBay and another logged into gixen, then I cut and paste the auction ids between the two.

If you've installed the Greasemonkey script, then the Snipe this Item link will show up on the You can also: line on each auction page you visit. It should be right between Get SMS or IM alerts and Email to a friend. It does not show up on your My Ebay page, which may be the source of confusion.

I've found this script to be very convenient: you simply visit the auction page of the item you'd like to snipe and click on the Snipe this Item link and a Gixen page with your username and the item number already entered comes up. All you have to do is type your password and the amount you'd like to bid. Very cool! I'm surprised Mark doesn't use it.

Is there a toolbar tool that will work on a Mac using Safari? My iBook is oldish and I really don't think I have enough free space for another browser, plus I am old and set in my ways!
I have just come over to Gixen from EZsniper, and I am impressed enough to have subscribed to Mirror- the only thing I miss is the Snapper Link feature.

I'm just looking into sniping services for the first time & am so far impressed with Gixen. I was just browsing the forums to find out if there are any cool add-ons for Firefox to make Gixen easier to use, when I came to this thread and saw what Cupid / Mark said about Firefox slowing down the more he uses it.

This is the exact same problem I have! Now I realise this thread is almost a year old, but if the same people are still about could someone help me out explaining what to do? I'd REALLY appreciate it; Firefox slowing makes me utterly miserable at times, as I use my computer so much and it really holds me back.

I use an old version on Firefox (1.5.0.6 to be super-precise)... the reason for not getting it updated being that I have quite alot of add-ons that sometimes seemed to get problems when I updated, so I just got lazy about sticking with the same version. Now I knew I'll have to update at some point, but I was putting it off until I got a faster computer, thinking that maybe a newer version might actually use more memory and simply be too advanced for my old iBook to handle.

But am I to understand that I'm wrong about that and that a "memory leak" (no idea what that is by the way) is what's actually slowing Firefox down for me... and that getting updated to a newer version of Firefox would actually speed it up?

Yes getting a new version would probably speed things up for you, memory leaks are where the progam uses memory and doesn't give it back when it is finished with it, so graduallly it uses more and more and goes slower and slower as the memory becomes scarce. These problems are much less pronounced in later versions of Firefox, I dont have nearly as much problems now... but I have got a faster computer since then anyway.

If you still dont want to get a later version (perhaps some of your plugins are still not compatible?) then the only alternative is to close the whole browser every now and then, say every couple of hours... because when a program is stopped it has to give up all the memory that it is using... so you start again from scratch at that point.

NB: I do know the word "updatiing" doesn't have two 'i's, but the word "datiing" with one 'i' is considered spam!

I have been restarting on a regular basis. I'm not at the point where I need to do it every few hours though. More like every few days. That may seem very easy to you if you were having to do it every few hours, but to me it is a pain, as I usually have a whole load of tabs which I have to save and re-open. Plus, by the point where I've decided to restart, I've usually been putting up with it going at snail's pace for a day or two already, and am just about ready to rip my hair out with frustration! I've spent a loooong time looking at spinning beach balls put it that way.

It's good to know that updatiing would help. Some of my plug-ins may play up after updatiing, but I doubt that would be nearly as annoying to me as when Firefox slows down.

Using an old version causes problems with some sites too, incl. most recently making Facebook unusable... so annoying.

The only thing is that I have some browser sessions from way back saved in one of the plug-ins, which I couldn't afford to lose, so I'll need to re-load all those sessions and save the U R Ls as bookmarks instead. But I was going to do that at some point anyway - as it's easier to see what you saved in bookmarks because you can see each site, rather than just a session with god knows what in it.

I've also begun scouting around for more info about speeding up Firefox and found out some helpful stuff. I should have done this ages ago really! This has been bugging me for much too long. Hopefully I'll get it sorted soon though.

P.S. I've just realised that putting that 'NB' bit at the top of my last post looks like I'm chastising you for something you said about my lack of spelling in your reply. What I was trying to do was warn you about the up-coming strange spelling beforehand, so you wouldn't think I was an idiot when you read it. I should've put the 'NB' with the misspelled words, but I can't edit the post, so I'm just explaining.

I never worry about spelling mistakes anyway, whether intentional/enforced by the spam filters (as in your case) or otherwise, and usually not grammer either, so long as I can understand I dont mind how people write... I am hopeless at both myself so I really couldn't complain or chastise even if I wanted to

From my personal experience, Firefox 3.x on Mac has much less issues so you may want to install it separately and see it for yourself.
I hope by meaning old computer, you did not mean something old like iBook G3. So if you have at least iBook G4 with OS X 10.4 or higher, then you should be fine.

Yeah, fortunately my iBook is at least a G4 (still horribly slow though. Thankfully I should be able to get a new iMac soon, and when I do I think it will be the best day of my life!)

I'm just trying to find out if any of my more important settings will be lost when I upgrade to Firefox 3... mainly tab mix plus saved sessions. Hopefully I'll extract an answer from their forums, but so far no luck there.

It's great to know why Firefox was so slow for me though... I'd never even heard of a memory leak until I read this thread. I was worried maybe there was spyware on my computer, or that it was down to me opening too many tabs (which prob. didn't help.) Now I know, just wish I'd looked into it ages ago!
