Using GDM and the auctions i have listed shown on ebay are all 1 hour longer than in GDM.

Is there a fix for this?

It is confusing and simply annoying as it is pointless using the GDM.

Hello Claire,

They match what I see on the Gixen website, for me using version 1.0.4. Since the times are durations can you confirm that the duration that you see in the Desktop Manager is one hour less than the actual time left for the auction to run?

What timezone are you in, and do you have daylight saving enabled on your computer?

.... and the current time is correct on your computer?

I see Mario stated:

'Note that your desktop system time has to be accurate in order for this field to be accurate. Most newer Windows desktops use a time server to synchronize time, so this should not be a big issue. '

when he released this feature.

Indeed it is. It is synced with time servers at the correct time.

At the time of this posting it is 1.19pm

I have read this and made sure all was correct, hence this thread.

Claire, what is the full description of the time zone you chose?

GMT +9.30 is an absolute time, it should show cities / etc next to it.

What happens if you change the timezone to something else?

It does, Adelaide, this is where i live.

Ok, i changed the time to UTC +10.00 Brisbane and it now shows the correct time.

If i changed it to UTC +10.00 Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney it shows an hour in front as with UTC +9.30.

Recently, our government (local) changed the daylight savings time and extra month or so (will check on that and confirm), i am unsure if this plays a role in the absolute time shown on the GDM.

It shouldn't, we are not even close to the time switch date... Let me test this myself, time to move to Australia... at least virtually, on my laptop...

Claire, indeed there is an issue with that time zone (not that I doubted you, but had to check myself). GDM uses a "time()" system call to obtain the current unix timestamp. The unix timestamp does not depend on DST or anything else, so for your timezone the value returned by Windows is flat wrong. This is a serious flaw in Windows.

Since I can't fix Windows, and don't want to make ugly hacks, I intend to make a Gixen API call to fetch a correct time from Gixen servers (that may be off then by a second or two due to network latency, but not by an hour), and possibly make this configurable in the settings or GDM.

I'll try to make a fix as soon as possible. Depending on how it goes it may take anywhere from few hours to a 3-4 days.

Someone should - but imagine all the red tape until this gets fixed. For me, it's much easier to find an alternate solution.

Anyway, between our messages I found it shouldn't take too long for the fix to be out. Maybe in the new few hours.

Claire, please download the latest version (1.0.5). The issue should be gone now.

It appears that gixen placed a bid for me one hour before the auction closed on an item last night. Are you sure the daylight savings time is working?

Pretty sure, or I would have an avalanche of emails in my inbox. What is the item id? I will check what happened.

It wasn't Gixen who placed your bid early - just checked the logs, and Gixen processed your bid on time, and got message "bid too low", so Gixen did not place a bid for you at all.

Looking at the auction, I can't be sure as usernames are scrambled, but I wouldn't say that your bid was placed on this auction at all. Did you use another username & another sniping service by any chance?

Well that's what it looks like to me, that your maximum bid was too low at the auction end time, but I don't understand what made you think that your bid was placed an hour early?

I still learning how this works - i saw a bid placed an hour before the auction closed and assumed it was mine. I have used gixen with 100% success twice recently, and I must say it is really impressive - was just stunned I missed this one - oh well, no loss.
