Ah, thanks, Mario. That would explain it. I assumed that, since Gixen's automatic bids were originating in the US or UK (according to the server I chose), my IP address was irrelevant. I'll send you an email.

musketman, with the latest change Gixen does pass your IP address to eBay, so you may indeed need to use VPN when scheduling your snipes. I am surprised, however, that this is used to restrict bidding. Please email me if this turns out to be true.

Have you tried using your VPN to access Gixen ?

I have to use a VPN to circumvent the rule I set out above, so I doubt eBay will give me a straight answer.

When the VPN is switched on, I can make manual bids. It is just the new Gixen that is causing me trouble. I might have to look at other software, which is a shame, since I'd like to support what is otherwise a great service.

I would give eBay a call and ask them about it. They will be able to tell you the exact reason.

Was the computer that you used located in the UK when you first registered that account, if not perhaps that is when Ebay associated your account with France, even though you were registering via the ebay.co.uk portal ?

I am registered in the UK, with eBay.co.uk, using a UK postal address.

That's why I can't work out what the problem is. Any ideas?

musketman,

Unfortunately what matters is "registration country", not shipping country.

Either open a new account with eBay, or give them a call and ask them to change it.

But my shipping address and account information are all in the UK. That's why I thought it must be something to do with my IP address - though how it's being recognised I don't know.

It's a restriction eBay is placing on the item - nothing to do with gixen and gixen cannot bypass these restrictions. If the restriction is based on your shipping address on file at eBay - which it sounds like it is here - you may want to consider using a different eBay account for these items.

Hello. I've been unsuccessful the last few times I've used Given to snipe and am struggling to work out why.

I've been bidding on items produced by LVMH (Dior, for example). I cannot bid on them from France (where I'm mostly based; it's forbidden), so I delete all eBay cookies from my browser and use a VPN to either bid live or find the number and enter it into Gixen. The problem is that I've been getting the following message:

Item: 173115601550
Title: Guerlain MUGUET Eau De Toilette
Status (main): eBay Trust & Safety Error Filter Id: <div>
<div class="errPanel">
<div class="panel-n">
<div class="panel-e">
<div class="panel-w">
<p>
Nous avons le regr
Your maximum bid: 36.99
Current price: 33.99

The message 'Nous avons le regret de vous informer ...' suggests that something is telling eBay I'm in France. My account settings are all in the UK, by the way.

Is it a problem with Gixen or with eBay? Which of them has access to my IP, and how can I get around this?
