There are adverts on this site, they contribute towards the running costs. There is also the Mirror option which members can pay $6 a year for and provides extra features, most notably that snipes are sent from two separate locations, which increases the reliability to the point that you never need be concerned about it, as far as the Gixen side of things is concerned. I believe the original idea for Gixen, that Mario had, was not of a money making exercise, he envisaged it supporting itself through member contributions... so the low cost is part of that original ethos... not a reflection of the actual value that the site provides to its' users. I am sure Gixen does more than support itself for Mario, so he no longer has to contribute from his own resources... web servers, sniping servers and data centre resources are not cheap options, mind you... but equally I don't think it is ever going to make anyone rich, but as I say, that was never the intent in any case.
Post subject: What is the business model
I'm considering a sniping service because I'm tired of missing out on items because of family commitments, work, etc. This one and Gavelsnipe seem to be the most highly recommended on the sports cards boards I read. Gavelsnipe requested a registration asking what the value of my collection was etc. A lot of information. Whereas Gixen promises not to even store my eBay password long term. As I worry about identity theft, Gixen makes me feel more comfortable. Gavelsnipe I believe is a service provided by HA (Heritage) at this point. How does Gixen make money? Thanks.
